2016 Year in Review

– GROWING BIGGER + BETTER TOGETHER –

The end of the year is a time to reflect and look back on how things have transformed over the past twelve months. According to pop culture and news outlets, 2016 didn’t shape up to be one of the greatest. That being said, in our community there have been incredible moments and accomplishments that shouldn’t be forgotten! Here at the Foundation, we feel very grateful to have been able to partner with donors to drive sustainable healthcare in our community. As we wrap up a successful 2016, take a journey with us through our year and see the community in action.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

– A DECADE FOR THE ‘RIDE FOR THE FUTURE’! –

On Sunday May 29th, 145 riders gathered to celebrate the 10th Anniversary for our ‘Ride for the Future’ motorcycle ride! Most bikers ride for the freedom of the open road, but at the ‘Ride for the Future’, we are also riding for HWMH’s Endowment Fund and the future of healthcare at our hospital in Dunnville. Endowment funds are essential to patient care and a hallmark of a great hospital because they provide reliable and long term revenue streams for the hospital. A huge thank you to all sponsors and participants who have donated over $70,000 towards our Endowment Fund in 10 years. We’d also like to thank Baldwin’s for 10 years of support and to the Thirsty Mate for the positive changes that have made the Ride bigger and better. Join us on Sunday May 28th 2017 for our Ride for the Future; enjoy a ride around Haldimand County and a perch lunch at Thirsty Mate. For all information visit: www.rideforthefuture.ca.

– EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT MINISTRY OF HEALTH APPROVAL –

In July, Haldimand War Memorial Hospital received official approval from the Ministry of Health to tender the Emergency Department project. This process is still underway but we look forward to exciting things happening in the spring of 2017. Projects of this magnitude take a lot of time, but it is our combined goal to bring the best possible Emergency Department to HWMH! Stay tuned for updates as we enter 2017!

– CARE & WIN(NERS!!) –

In the spring, DHHF’S Care & Win Lottery was launched at the Lion’s Home & Garden Show with over $25,000 in exciting prizes up for grabs! Over the summer, we sold over 5,000 tickets, had two early bird draws and held our final draw on September 15th. Congratulations to our grand prize winner, V. Ricker, who took home $17,000, our second prize winner, B. Gough who won $2000 cash and S. Reid who claimed a $1000 Great Wolf Lodge getaway. Thank you to our dedicated DHHF volunteer Shirley Fester and HWMH CEO David Montgomery for pulling our winning tickets!

– BIG SMILES TO OUR COMMUNITY FOR THE SMILE COOKIE CAMPAIGN –

Between September 12-18th, 7217 Smile Cookies were sold at Dunnville’s Tim Hortons. The full dollar of each Smile Cookie supported Dunnville Hospital & Healthcare Foundation, contributing $7217.00 towards a new Emergency Department at our hospital. A smile goes a long way towards local healthcare! A huge thank you to the Tim Hortons staff, owner Rob and everyone in the community who purchased a Smile Cookie!

    – RIDE RUN OR WALK FOR YOUR HOSPITAL –

Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support for our 8th annual Ride, Run or Walk for Your Hospital on Saturday August 27. An incredible 86 participants joined us on the bright sunny day and an impressive $25,000 was raised to support a new Emergency Department at Dunnville hospital! Learn more about the event at www.walkforyourhospital.ca and join us on Saturday August 26th, 2017.

– NEW WEBSITE, NEW LOOK, SAME FOUNDATION! –

Over the summer, we updated our website. It is now mobile friendly and, as before, you can continue to donate online. Our website is secure. We have an HTTPS website, meaning all your information is safely encrypted and protected, plus your donations are processed securely through Paypal. In addition, you can now stay updated on our blog; don’t forget to subscribe to receive updates directly to your inbox.

– TEEING OFF FOR A NEW EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT –

On Friday September 9th, 2016, 101 golfers hit the links at Freedom Oaks Golf Club in support of a new Emergency Department at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, raising just over $20,000. Registration began at 11 a.m., where golfers received their welcome package, a barbeque lunch and a shotgun start at 12 noon. Participants golfed 18 holes and returned for a delicious prime rib dinner, silent and live auction. A special thank you to our event sponsor Canadian Tire, Dunnville and our many other sponsors who generously contributed to the event. Hit the links and support your hospital in 2017; join us on Friday September 8th.

– STAN REID, MISSED BY MANY –

The Board of Directors and staff of the Dunnville Hospital & Healthcare Foundation honour the memory and express our appreciation for the wisdom, experience and direction of our leader, Stan Reid, who passed away on December 15, 2016. Stan served our community in many ways, most recently as our Board Chair. Thank you for your support, Stan. You will be missed by many.

– TREES OF HOPE SUCCESS –

Our Trees of Hope campaign launched on November 1st. Members of the community purchased lights or stars to help light make the walls of Haldimand War Memorial Hospital sparkle again this year. The outpouring of generosity was tremendous throughout the campaign, which ended on December 31, 2016. We had many highlights over the course of the campaign, including Giving Tuesday on November 29, where Dunnville’s Royal Canadian Legion committed to matching $2000 in donations; in total we had over $9000 donated by 35 donors in one day. The support from the community has been incredible. In two months, we exceeded our $100,000 goal and raised $114,836. All proceeds help us bring a new Emergency Department to Haldimand War Memorial Hospital. Thank you!

 – LOOKING AHEAD TO 2017 –

Your Foundation welcomes 2017 and thanks you for your support during 2016. We look forward to very exciting developments for healthcare in our community, including the construction of a new Emergency Department at HWMH.

Happy New Year!

From your team at DHHF—Shelley Rollo, Rachel Williams & Cheryl Martin
