Our History
What is the Foundation?
The Foundation acts as a financial resource for capital expansion projects, renovations and the purchase of equipment. The Foundation cannot provide funds for any operating costs.
The Foundation was established under Letters Patent on October 22, 1974. The founding fathers were: John Albert Nugent, George Lalor Ramsey, Paul Leo Mailloux, Lorna Jean Dale Miller, Charles Irvin Lundy, William Victor Stevens, John Gilbert Longwell, Wayne Robert Watterworth, Peter Ewart Dunlop, Howard Ellis Brown, and Beverly Anne Mustard. Your Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of up to 16 members. All directors are volunteers from within our own community.
Because of the strong community involvement and commitment from individuals, businesses, service clubs and community organizations, your Foundation has been able to carry out its "Grand Tradition of Caring", providing over 4 million dollars in medical equipment and facility improvements. This community can justifiably be proud of the new Radiography and Fluoroscopy unit which was completed in 2002 at a cost of 1.1 million dollars. This state-of-the-art web based technology was the first of its kind in North America.
Looking to ensure the future vitality of healthcare services in our community, we are currently working to raise the funds needed to pay for the construction costs of our new Primary Healthcare Centre. This new facility is home to the Haldimand Family Health Team and has gone a long way in attracting new physicians and healthcare professionals to our community. The Healthcare Centre also houses a community laboratory, a physiotherapy clinic, a dietician, nurse practitioners, Haldimand-Norfolk Mental Health & Addiction Services, a pain management clinic, and a social worker.
In keeping with providing the best service and care to our community, in 2011 your Foundation began raising funds to support Haldimand County’s first CT Scanner for the Diagnostic Imaging department in the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital. This equipment will enable our residents to have access to another current state-of-the-art technology which will assist in diagnosing cancer, stroke, abdominal pain, head injuries and many other illnesses where normal x-rays are not effective. This equipment will allow onsite diagnosis and avoid the need to send patients out of town.
Together, "You and Your Foundation", making a difference today to ensure a healthy tomorrow.
