Tis’ the Season of Giving

– CUE THE SLEIGH BELLS, TREES OF HOPE IS BACK –

We can hardly believe the holiday season is upon us—the bright side of colder weather is warmer hearts! Here at the Foundation Office, we’ve been feeling an incredible expression of generosity and care from our community, since our annual Trees of Hope campaign kicked off on November 1st, hundreds of donors have contributed over $70,000!

– DUNNVILLE LEGION DOUBLED YOUR DONATIONS –

On the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday—two days that encourage spending on the economy—Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving back that happens as the “opening day of the giving season”. To celebrate Giving Tuesday and amplify our Trees of Hope campaign, Dunnville’s Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 142, generously committed to match up to a total of $2000 in donations on the one day only –Tuesday November 29th.

We experienced an unbelievable response from the community, raising a total of $9050 in one day. Thirty-four donors contributed $7050, plus the additional $2000 match donation from the Dunnville Legions towards our Trees of Hope campaign. Thank you!

– WE PUT UP TREES OF HOPE AROUND DUNNVILLE –

This year we decided to spread holiday cheer like confetti around town. You may have noticed Trees of Hope Christmas trees in eight locations such as Debb’s Cuisine on Queen, Chestnut Lane, Edgewater Gardens. These trees are covered in donors’ sentiment cards, messages remembering their loved ones, commemorating events and sending season’s greetings! Be sure to stop and enjoy the lights and stars that have been purchased and acknowledged with a sentiment.

– WE TURNED ON THE HOPE OF THE HOLIDAYS –

On Saturday December 3 before the Dunnville Christmas Parade, we lit up the Trees of Hope on the Lock Street side of the hospital. Fairview Public School choir beautifully sang Christmas carols as we sipped hot chocolate and awaited the lighting. Community members and hospital staff watched as we counted down to light up the trees, and the hope of the holidays. To finish off the evening, Santa came to town and all of Dunnville united in the spirit of Christmas at the parade.

– YOU SWEAT FOR A NEW EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT –

Meanwhile, in our community, Premier Martial Arts/Grand River Crossfit owners Greg & Nyree and members were completing their “Fight Gone Bad for our Hospital” workouts, sweating for our hospital. Since 2014, “Fight Gone Bad” has raised over $6060 for local healthcare. Not only does Haldimand have heart, we have muscles too! . At this “pay-to-play” event, you pledge a set donation, for instance, $0.25 per rep, crush your workout, and then donate! This annual event consists of various workout challenges, including wall balls, box jumps, rowing, and more—and it’s all about those reps! There were two new challenges this year, including a Toonies for Burpees – Student Challenge and a “Hope” workout challenge. This event was a huge success raising $1660.15 towards a new Emergency Department. Thank you!

– WE CONTINUE TO RECEIVE VERY GENEROUS ANNUAL DONATIONS –

Your generous annual donations are helping your hospital this Christmas, thank you to the following local groups and businesses for your caring contributions: The Optimist Club of Dunnville, Pete’s Engine & Rental Centre, Dan Minor & Sons, Canfield Women’s Institute, Dortmans Bros. Barn Equip. Inc., Dunn Anglican Parish, Dunnville Mudcats Camp Club, Grand River Heating & Cooling, Ladies Auxiliary Br. 142 R.C.L., New Tech Automotive & Tire, Rainham Centre Bowling League and Tops ON #1288.

Your generous donations, large and small, silently testify the magic of the season. Thank you for support a new Emergency Department at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital and giving a gift that keeps on giving after the holidays.
