Famed French philosopher and author Albert Camus once said, “Real generosity towards the future lies in giving all to the present.”

This statement has never been truer than it is right now. Our health care system, which continues to rely so heavily on the kindness of our donors, is facing unprecedented demand right now.

The pandemic has had a profound impact worldwide and has made its mark at home in Haldimand County and even closer for those of us in the healthcare field here in Dunnville at the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital(HWMH) and Edgewater Gardens (EG).

As I look back on the accomplishments we’ve made during my first full year as the Executive Director of the Dunnville Hospital and Healthcare Foundation(DHHF), I am reminded that we truly are blessed with a generous community, and I am overcome with a sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the way our residents came together to support HWMH, EG, and each other. It is remarkable how much our community has shown their appreciation through support, while our health care workers continue showing dedication and resilience in providing the best care possible close to home.

Together, we accomplished a remarkable task. We raised $1.4 million despite the challenges we’ve all faced. Volunteers, donors, grateful patients, and business owners answered our call. In a year of uncertainty and shifting priorities, we navigated change and kept on course with our promise to raise over $1 million so HWMH and EG would be able to purchase the equipment identified as highest priority.

As we move into 2022 with new priorities and a robust strategic plan, we are well positioned to meet our financial objectives for the next three years. I am confident that the trust the DHHF is continuing to build with the people of Haldimand County will be the catalyst we need to see us reach new heights. We have been tasked with raising $1.5million for a new CT Scanner, $600,000 towards the Edgewater Expansion, and an additional $150,000 for additional priority equipment, and I have every confidence we can do it together.
