A Message from the Foundation Chair

What a difference a year makes!

2020 may be remembered as the year of the pandemic but for those of us at the Foundation it will be remembered as the year we completed the largest fundraising campaign in the history of the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital. Through the incredible generosity of our community we were able to raise 3 million dollars for the new ER Department. The Hospital CEO Sharon Moore thanked our team and reminded us about how much more difficult it would have been for the healthcare team to handle the pandemic in the old emergency department. This highlights the importance of keeping our hospital equipped with the latest in technology and state of the art equipment.

Which is a good segue into our next challenge! The Hospital Board has given the Foundation a list of equipment that needs to be replaced over the next 18 months. This will cost 1.1 million dollars. As of January 2021, we had donated $600,000 towards the new equipment campaign. We are on track to donate another $500,000 in 2021 but we need your support to complete our commitment of $1.1 million by December 2021.

The good news is that the vaccine distribution is going very well and our community members are rolling up their sleeves! We are hopeful that we may be able to host some of our events in the back half of 2021 in person (with all health measures in place).

I would like to thank all of our healthcare workers for keeping our community safe. The team at the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital and Edgewater Gardens have been working tirelessly on behalf of our community and we can’t thank them enough! I would also like to thank all of our incredible Donors, Volunteers and Foundation staff for their hard work. Our past chair, Karen Tilstra, deserves a special thank you. It was Karen’s leadership and vision that were the driving force behind the “Every Moment Counts” campaign for our new Emergency Department. Thank you Karen.
